The Latest Climate Science - consequences, risks and opportunities for Western Australia The Conservation Council of Western Australia invites you to a special Environment Matters to hear the latest climate science and the opportunities and risks for Western Australia. Ongoing scientific research on global greenhouse gas emissions is necessary to provide us with an understanding of what is happening to our climate and the risks and challenges we face in dealing with the consequences of escalating global temperatures. The 2007 Fourth Assessment Report (4AR) of the Nobel Prize winning Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) showed that the threat of global warming continues to intensify. Since then other scientific reports have shown that the worst case scenarios for climate change in the 4AR are playing out with very dire consequences for the planet. At this special Environment Matters we will hear from two eminent scientists: Professor Jean Palutikof - Currently Director of the National Climate Change Adaptation Research Facility at Griffiths University and has previously managed the production of the IPCC’s 4AR on Impacts, Adaptation and Vulnerability while working in the UK Met Office. Dr Graeme Pearman – A national and international expert in research on increasing levels of carbon dioxide in the global atmosphere. Dr Pearman was Chief of CSIRO Atmospheric Research from 1992 to 2002 and left CSIRO to establish his own consultancy company and take up a position with Monash University. This forum is ideal for CCWA affiliates and supporters, those working or studying in climate change policy, advocacy and research areas and members of the community interested in learning more about the latest climate science implications for WA and Australia.
