The Future of Waste Management in WA
Western Australia has the worst record for litter and the lowest levels of recycling in the nation. New research by the Boomerang Alliance has shown that the vast majority of the public – 97% – believe reducing waste is important, putting pressure on government to help the industry realise its huge potential to create jobs, attract investment, and reduce carbon pollution. A recent online poll by CCWA revealed (more than 90% of respondents), that the State Government is not doing enough to promote and support recycling in WA. Clearly action is urgently needed to tackle our waste crisis. The Waste Authority released a draft strategy for future waste management in WA in September 2009 and is currently seeking public views on its contents. This community workshop, hosted by the Conservation Council of WA, will be an opportunity to find out what the plans are for waste management in WA and to ask your questions about the draft strategy before making your submission. This is your opportunity to influence the direction of waste management and resource recovery in WA.
