Bessie Rischbieth Conservation Award Recipient 1997 Naomi Segal Naomi Segal has made a significant contribution to conservation, especially the banning of organochlorines, including dieldrin, aldrin, DDT and heptachlor. Naomi was a household name in WA because of her energetic and successful campaign against the use of organochlorine pesticides. After suffering as a victim of a careless pest control operator in the mid 1980’s she formed the group, ‘Householders for Safe Pesticide Use’. Naomi also: Worked on the forests campaign in the early 1980’s, Assisted many other groups in their campaigns against pollution and toxic chemicals, Worked as a State Coordinator for Greenpeace, Assisted the Felspar Road Action Group in its campaign against the effects of the Stephenson and Ward incinerator, Served on the Executive Committee of the Conservation Council, and Made an enormous contribution to the Council over many years. Naomi was widely recognised as one the WA’s most effective environment campaigners, with her efforts a model and inspiration to others.
