Conservation Week is the largest community focused environmental event in Western Australia that celebrates WA's unique environment and promotes action towards building a sustainable future. The aim of Conservation Week is to highlight issues facing the environment in WA and to celebrate the work of conservation organisations, community groups and individuals all across the State. It's a great opportunity to showcase your group or organisation and the fantastic work local communities are doing to protect the environment and communicate the importance of environmental protection.
How to get involved.. As with previous years, community groups, environmental organisations, schools, local business and individuals are invited to participate by registering an event already happening during the week or consider organising a special event to communicate the importance of the environment. In 2009 the Conservation Council has organised a number of activities and events that you can get involved in, including: - The Biodiversity in our Backyard Photography Competition - The Conservation Council of WA Conservation Awards, and - The Biodiversity in our Backyard Citizen Science Project 1. Organise Either register an event already happening during CW or consider organising a special event, activity or project that communicates the importance of the environment in you local community or beyond. Here's a few ideas of events, projects, activities you could organise - a walk or cycle to school or walk - a tree planting/weeding/clean up of your local bushland reserve - host an environmental themed display at your school or local library - invite a guest speaker to your school or local library - present a guided walk/seminar or workshop with an environmental theme - or simply host a celebration of your groups' achievments in protecting the environment
......................the list is endless. | | | |
